Match 41: England vs New Zealand - ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Post Match Summary

It’s England who finally made it into the Semis! The match 41 of the ICC Men’s WC happened between England and New Zealand on June 3, 2019, at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street, England by 10:30 am the local time. It’s the England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat 1st.

First Innings :

It was the English openers Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy who was back in the side started an excellent opening start which their team expected. As the opening pair put up a stunning show of 123 runs as the returned Jason Roy departed by reaching his 17th ODI half-century and 3rd in this WC which excludes a century. Jason made 60 off 61 runs with 8 beautiful boundaries included. As Jonny Bairstow who was so clinical in his innings secured his 2nd Ton of this WC 2019 and 9th in ODIs. After the 123 runs and 71 runs partnership for the 1st and 2nd wicket, no other noticeable partnership was built in England batting line-up. After the dismissal of Joe Root who made 24 off 25 balls with the only boundary, it was Jonny Bairstow who departed immediately after his century who made 106 off 99 balls with 15 fours and 1 six included. That time England were 206 for the loss of 3 wickets in 31.4 overs. Rather than both top orders almost all the England middle and lower order batsmen failed to contribute for boosting up the score. The skipper Eoin Morgan who was a bit supportive scored 42 off 40 balls with 5 boundaries included. It was the Kiwi bowlers who went discipline at the end to restrict the Britains.
As Mitchell Santer, Matt Henry and James Neesham took 2 wickets each. Where Trent Boult who picked 1 wicket in the end. Thus England gradually made 305 for the loss of 8 wickets in their complete 50 overs.

Second Innings :

In reply when the “Black Caps” started chasing it was Martin Guptill who once again fail to make an impressive performance. As Henry Nicholas went for a golden duck who got plumbed by the English bowler Chris Woakes. Including the inform Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor who both did not perform well on the chase on their final group match. As Kane made 27 off 40 balls with 3 fours included while, Ross made 28 off 42 balls with 2 boundaries included. It was only the wicket-keeper batsman Tom Latham who single-handedly decided to chase but rest other Kiwi batsmen did not support as Latham marked his maiden World Cup half-century by scoring 57 off 65 balls with 5 boundaries included. Expected James Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme who just contributed 19 and 3 runs respectively. The English bowlers were so clinical in their economy rate. It was Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer who was the pick of the bowlers in their economy rate as Ben Stokes gave 2 run rate in his 5 overs and picked 1 wicket while Archer gave 2.43 in his 7 overs spell with a wicket and a maiden over. Mark Wood who took the 3 wicket-haul and gave 34 runs in his 10 overs. The spinner Adil Rashid, medium pacers Chris Woakes and Liam Plunkett picked 1 wicket each respectively. Thus New Zealand fail to mark a winning note before their semifinal match as they only made 186 runs for the loss of all the 10 wickets in 45 overs.



Man of the Match(MOM): It is Jonny Bairstow the only Centurion of the match who was the main reason to change the match grabbed the Man of the Match award.

Records: Tom Latham the wicket-keeper batsman marked his 1st WC fifty and 15th overall in ODIs. England fixed their spot in Semis for the first time after 27 years.
