Match 38: England vs India - ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Post Match Summary

What a match it was over 600 plus runs had taken place. Yeah! It’s team England who still keeps their hopes alive. The match 38 of the ICC Men’s WC 2019 was happened between England and India on June 30 2019, at Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham, England by 10:30 am the local time. The England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bat 1st.

First Innings :

England opened their innings with their inform batsman Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy who was back in the side. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow who made 160 runs partnership for the 1st wicket as Jason Roy gave his wicket for 66 off 57 balls with 7 boundaries and 2 sixes included. It was Joe Root who then came into bat with Jonny Bairstow. The partnership for the 2nd wicket went on for 45 runs as Jonny Bairstow gave his wicket after his 8th ODI century for 111 off 109 balls with 10 fours and 6 sixes included. Then came the England skipper Eoin Morgan who went so early for just only 1 run off 9 balls as the Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami bowled a tempted bouncer to get rid of the England skipper. It was Kedhar Jadhav who took a great catch in the deep final leg to get rid of Morgan. At no.5 there came England’s greatest and newest World Cup hope who is none other than Ben Stokes. The partnership for the 4th wicket between Ben Stokes and Joe Root went on for 70 runs as Joe Root was dismissed by Mohammed Shami for 44 runs off 54 with only 2 boundaries under his belt, as the catch was caught by Hardik Pandya at deep final leg. It was Ben Stokes who stood till the end of England’s batting as Stokes secured 79 off 54 balls with 6 boundaries and 3 sixes under his belt. By this he brought his 4th WC fifty in 2019 and 19th in ODIs.
It was Mohammed Shami who took the fiver for the 1st time in his WC career and that was 3rd consecutive time he achieved the 4 wicket-haul mark that too in World Cups . The only important reason Shami reached his fiver because of the world no.1 bowler Jasprit Bumrah at the other end bowled sensationally well by considering only 44 runs in his complete 10 overs and took 1 wicket which did not allow the English batsman to take risk. The Indian spinner Kuldeep also took 1 wicket considering 72 runs. Thus team England had finally made 337 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs.

Second Innings :

When team India started to chase the world record run chase it was KL Rahul who himself gave his wicket in the very 3rd over of the innings. As KL Rahul did not score any run. It was then the Indian skipper Virat Kohli who came in the middle to carry his partnership along with Rohit Sharma. After KL Rahul’s wicket, the captain and the vice-captain of India decided to go slow and to make a strong foundation for the team’s winning mark. It was the skipper Virat Kohli who himself gave his wicket in the backward point region as he went for 66 off 76 balls with 7 classic boundaries included. Thus the 134 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket was broken. Rohit who carried his form brilliantly marked his 24th ODI century and 3rd in this WC and 4th overall by scoring 102 runs off 109 runs with 15 boundaries under his belt. After Rohit Sharma’s wicket iit was the WC debutant Rishab Pant who 1st started so eagerly made him to reach 32 off 29 with 4 boundaries included. It was Hardik Pandya who secured a well made 45 off 33 balls with 4 fours included along with MS Dhoni who made a matured knock of 42 runs off 31 balls with 4 fours and a massive. Only 2 bowlers who dominated the Indian batting line up. It was the experienced Liam Plunkett who picked a 3 wicket-haul and Chris Woakes who picked 2 wickets as all the other bowlers did not have any wicket. Thus India finally could only make 306 for the loss of 5 wickets in the complete 50 overs.



Man of the Match(MOM): Jonny Bairstow by his remarkable century for 111 runs off 109 balls grabbed the Man of the Match award.

Rohit Sharmi marked his 4th WC Ton and 3rd in this WC 2019.
