Match 5: South Africa vs Bangladesh - ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Post Match Summary

Yet a nother loss for the 2015 World Cup Semi-finalist South Africans and what a start for Bangladesh in the tournament.

It was the 5th match in the tournament which was happened between South Africa and Bangladesh at The Oval, London on June 2nd, 2019 by 10:30am the local tine. The toss was won by the South African skipper Faf du Plesis and elected for the 2nd time in the tournament to field first.

The Bangladesh opening batsmen made a fruitful start for their team as the pair put a 60 runs partnership. The experienced Tamim Iqbal was caught behind to Quinton de Kock in just 16. On the other hand Soumya Sarkar made delightful knock of 42 in just 30 deliveries adding 9 fours under his belt. After Sowmya Sarkar’s good start the well experienced Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim played a sensational knock lifting the team to a healthy total. Shakib registered his 43th while, Rahim marked his 34th half-century at The Oval.
The pair put a 142 runs partnership for the 4th wicket as Shakib Al Hasan made 75 (84) with 8 boundaries and 1 six and Mushfiqur Rahim scored 78 (80) that includes 8 boundaries. After their dismissal it was Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain who made a steady 50 plus (66) partnership to wind up a massive total for the Bangladesh tigers. Mahmudullah smashed a quick 46 (33) while Mosaddek Hossain played a nice little cameo of 26 which includes 4 boundaries. It was the senior most cricketer in this 2019 World Cup, the 40 year old Imran Tahir supported the South African bowling department to pick 2 important wickets while, Andile Phehlukwayo and Chris Morris picked 2 wickets each. But, the expected pacer Kagiso Rabada was not that supportive for his team this time. Through the Bangladesh quality brave knock made them to reach their highest score in ODI well as in World Cups, as they made 330 runs for the loss 6 wickets in 50 overs.

This is the 2nd match in the tournament for the South Africans. It is a must that they should win this match to stay safe in the tournament. No other collapse happened till the first 9 overs among the openers Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram. During the progress 10th over there happened the collapse among them and the wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock has to loose his wicket for 23 runs. Then came the skipper who batted brilliantly and made fifty partnership with Aiden Markram. As Markram went for 45 (56) the skipper made his 33th ODI fifty and was he bowled out with a brilliant delivery by Mehidy Hasan for 62 (52) which includes 5 boundaries and a massive. The middle orders David Miller 38 (43), Rassie van der Dussen 41 (38), JP Dumminy 45 (37) did supported their team but that was not enough to chase the target of 331. Thus the 2nd match for the South Africans also went with disappointment as they could make only 309 for the loss of 8 wickets in the full 50 overs. The Bangladesh bowlers decently supported their team as Mustafizur Rahman took 3, Mohammad Saifuddin picked 2 while Mehidy Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan picked 1 wicket each. This made the Bangladesh to celebrate their 1st win in their 1st match of the tournament.



Man of the Match (MOM) : Shakib Al Hasan being the world’s no.1 all-rounder in ODI format grabbed the Man of the Match (MOM) award for his 75 runs contribution with the bat and 1 important wicket with the ball.

Records : Bangladesh registered their highest ever team score of 330 in both World Cup and ODI cricket as their previous best was 329 against Pakistan at Dhakka on 2015.

Shakib Al Hasan by picking Aiden Markram’s wicket registered his 250th wicket who is the 2nd man to do next to his skipper Mashrafe Mortaza for Bangladesh

Result : Bangladesh won by 21 runs.
