Match 30 of the ICC Men’s WC was between Pakistan and South Africa on Sunday, June 23rd, 2019 at Lord’s Cricket Ground by 10:30 am the local time.
The toss won by Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and elected to bat 1st.
First Innings :
Pakistan has decided make a good start at Lord’s as their openers Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman made a solid 81 runs partnership. After Fakhar Zaman who went for 44 off 50 balls that includes 6 fours and a massive it was Imam-ul-Haq who also gave his wicket for 44 off 58 balls with 6 fours included. Then came the ICC World no.8 batsman Babar Azam who partnered with Haris Sohail as the inform Mohammad Hafeez departed for 20 off 33 balls. Babar and Haris put on a 81 runs partnership for the 3rd wicket which is also the key partnership next to the opening pair. Babar marked his 14th half-century as he made 69 runs off 80 balls with 7 fours included. While Haris who was an important reason to make Pakistan get pass 300 plus made 89 off 59 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes included. Haris Sohail by this registered his 1st WC half-century and 11th in ODI. The South Africa bowlers supported their team as the 40 year old Imran Tahir who led the bowling department as he took 2 wickets for 41 in his complete 10 overs spell.
Though Lungi Ngidi picked 2 wickets but he was bit expensive while the all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo and the part time bowler Aiden Markam picked 1 wicket each. Thus Pakistan made 308 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs.
Second Innings :
When South Arica began to chase it was the experienced Hashim Amla failed for just 2 runs. That was a brave successful review taken by the Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed for the leg before wicket (lbw) as the umpire felt pitching down the leg which was bowled by Mohammad Amir. It was wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock and the South African skipper Faf du Plessis who made 87 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. But, de Kock who was playing so good was tempted to hit a six in the deep mid wicket caught by Imam-ul-Haq bowled by Pakistan’s new hope Shadab Khan. This made de Kock to depart for 47 off 60 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Then it was Aiden Markram who went for just 7 runs off 16 balls. Faf du Plessis who registered his 34th ODI fifty top edged which was taken by Pakistan captain to dismiss the South African captain for 63 off 79 balls with 5 boundaries included. After them it was Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller and Andile Phehlukwayo who brought the game to a positive but, fail to score much which the team really required. As Rassie van der Dussen made 36 off 47 balls with a six and a four, David Miller who contributed 31 off 37 balls with 3 boundaries included finally it was Andile Phehlukwayo who made an important 46 runs off 32 balls with 6 fours included. The Pakistan blowers Shadab Khan and Wahab Riaz picked 3 crucial wickets each and Mohammad Amir picked 2 wickets for 49 in 10 overs. Despite of this effort it was Pakistan who made it finally. Thus South Africa lost their 6th consecutive matches for 259 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs. Pakistan won 49 runs.
